Idella, Alicia - what the heck is going on? With the names and stuff? What are you doing, anyway?

Hey friends - It's me. Alicia, Idella, whoever. If you're here, then you probably know me either from real life, blogging, or the 3D avatar-based virtual world Second Life. If you know me from real life, I'm Alicia, and if you know me from blogging, I'm Alicia, too. But if you met me in Second Life, you know me as Idella. I came to Second Life via my blog friend Jesus' General - many bloggers use pseudonyms, although I never did as a blogger - I've always written under my own name, as I don't have the kind of job or situation where I could get in trouble about what I write if my real name were known, as many bloggers are.

Now, in Second Life, you have to choose a name before you really even know what's going on - and I had no idea what to expect. I was invited to do an online booksigning in SL, so I had to make an account - you pick your own first name then you're given a list of last names to choose from, so no one has overlapping names. Well, I picked Idella, after my favorite SCTV character Idella Voudry. However, if I had known that I was going to do as much as I do in Second Life, I would have chosen my own first name - but it's too late now. Idella has an identity of her own, and there's really nothing I can do but go with the flow and try not to confuse people (or myself) too much...

So, anyway - that's the story of the two names, for what it's worth. I answer to both; Idella has the cool hair, bangin' body and great clothes, and Alicia does all the work.
